Jesus promised to clothe the Apostles in power to get His message to all the Earth. That happens in Acts 2 when they started preaching and working miracles. In Acts 2:16, Peter says Joel prophesied about all of this. Why?
God established the trustworthiness of the Apostles for us. He did that using prophecies in the Old Testament, what Jesus promised in the Gospel, and the miracles they performed. This was critical because the Apostles were speaking on behalf of God. They wrote the rest of the Scripture. They laid down the foundation for the church. They also planted the early churches.
After John wrote Revelation, he warned not to add anything else or subtract. Anyone who does is a false teacher who won't have eternal life. Scripture, or the canon, is finished.
